Bersatu to sign charter with Muafakat Nasional soon, says Umno's Tajuddin

PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is expected to officially announce its cooperation with Muafakat Nasional “soon”.

According to Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abd Rahman (pic), a charter between Bersatu and Muafakat Nasional is expected to be signed soon.

Tajuddin said this was following a meeting in Parliament on Wednesday (July 29) between Barisan MPs and Muhyiddin.

“Muhyiddin already informed us that Bersatu will join Muafakat Nasional. So if that happens, Muafakat Nasional will be Barisan Nasional, PAS and Bersatu,” he said.

“He (Muhyiddin) said the process will take place.

"Probably the signing of a charter, which was already signed by Umno and PAS last September,” Tajuddin added.

When asked how soon the charter would be signed, Tajuddin said: "Very soon”.

“Because if they have decided, what is there for them to wait? As far as I’m concerned, I told Muhyiddin that we are most happy for them to join Muafakat Nasional.

“This is the only way we think we can stabilise the politics and country as a whole,” he said.

Tajuddin said the Malays should not look at the cooperation between Bersatu and Muafakat Nasional as a narrow political agenda.

“This is not a political agenda. It’s an agenda for the country and for Malaysians.” He said.

Sources have told The Star on Wednesday (July 29) that separate meetings were held between Muhyiddin and Perikatan Nasional parties to discuss Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s status as a lawmaker following his conviction in the SRC International trial.

The meeting also discussed whether or not to dissolve Parliament, as it would mean Perikatan is left with 112 seats in the 222-seat Parliament if Najib loses his seat.

However, talks on dissolving Parliament was toned down after it was made clear that Najib could still attend the Parliament despite the guilty verdict.
