Movement and illegal migrant crackdown: More arrests made, says Ismail Sabri (updated)

PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 71 people for breaching recovery movement control order (MCO) regulations yesterday (July 1), says Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Of this, 29 were remanded for further investigations while 42 were issued compounds, he said this in a statement on Thursday (July 2).

Ismail Sabri said the task force in charge of recovery movement control order (MCO) compliance, which is led by the police, had conducted 67,229 checks yesterday, leading to the arrest of the 71 people.

He said among the offences included illegal activities at karaoke and entertainment centres (12); pubs and nightclubs (4); reflexology and massage centres (7); activities with big crowds and no social distancing (34); and activities that go against standard operating procedures (14).

The police also arrested 16 foreigners yesterday at Op Benteng roadblocks in the country for immigration offences, he added.

Malaysia is currently in its 107th day of the MCO’s implementation and also in the 22nd day of the recovery MCO phase.
