KLANG: One of the four Selangor Bersatu assemblymen who professed support for the Pakatan Harapan Selangor government appears to have backtracked on his stance.
Dengkil representative Adhif Syan Abdullah had – along with Mohd Shaid Rosli (Jeram), Sallehudin Amiruddin (Kuang) and Harumaini Omar (Batang Kali) – had submitted statutory declarations to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari pledging support for the state government after Bersatu ditched the coalition to team up with Umno and PAS.
However, Adhif, who is the Selangor Bersatu youth chief, is said to have distanced himself from his three Pakatan-friendly colleagues.
“He made it clear by removing himself from our discussion group, and we can see that he has now moved towards Perikatan Nasional," said Mohd Shaid, the Kuala Selangor Bersatu chief.
Mohd Shaid said he, Sallehudin and Harumaini would continue to be Pakatan-friendly.
“When we stood in the general election, we were all new faces, and our constituents did not know us. Yet they voted for us because we contested under the Pakatan ticket, and so it is only fair that we serve under the same banner until our term ends," said Mohd Shaid.
He said it was up to the voters to decide which party or coalition to vote for in the next general election.
“Until then, we will serve them on the mandate given to us during the last general election," he added.
Harumaini agreed, saying that he would not change his personal stance and ditch Pakatan.
“It is a matter of principle. We were elected as Pakatan representatives, and we must remain that way to serve our constituents," he said.
Sallehudin also said he would never ditch Pakatan and turn towards Perikatan.
“I have been clear on this stand from the very beginning because if I turn towards Perikatan, I would be betraying the people’s mandate," he added.
He said he also wanted to remain a member of the Pakatan family as long as he served as an elected representative.
Adhif Syan was not available for comment at press time.
