Johor cops nab 18 in multiple drug busts, make seizures worth over RM1mil

JOHOR BARU: Police have busted two drug syndicates and arrested its ringleaders and 16 others in a series of raids in the state.

Johor chief Comm Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said one of the ringleaders is a Singaporean national.

Among the 18 arrested were six women aged between 25 and 50.

He added that police launched 15 raids between June 2 and June 9, in Seri Alam, Kota Tinggi and Pontian.

"The first syndicate, known as 'Ah Poh', comprises 12 suspects whose ringleader is a 43-year-old Singaporean.

"Investigations revealed that this syndicate was supplying a kilogram of syabu every two days to drug pushers here, Pontian and Plentong," he said during a press conference at the state police headquarters here on Monday (June 15).

Comm Ayub added that the second syndicate, whose ringleader is known as "Handsome", was a known drug offender and had been arrested six times since 2002.

"The 44-year-old suspect was using a lighting decorations business as a front for his drug syndicate for eight years.

"Police arrested six syndicate members, including the ringleader's wife and another known as the 'Professor', who was responsible for measuring and packaging syabu for their pushers here, Seri Alam and Kota Tinggi," he said.

Comm Ayob pointed out that all those arrested had previous criminal records and 16 also tested positive for drugs.

He also said that police seized various drugs worth more than RM49,000, a fake gun with 29 live bullets, jewellery worth RM8,000,15 cars worth RM834,000 and cash amounting to RM71,045 from the two syndicates.

Comm Ayob said police also seized 18 bank accounts with RM117,354 in funds belonging to eight individuals believed to have been used for drug activities.

"In total, we seized RM1.08mil worth of drugs and seizures from the two syndicates with the arrests.

"All suspects will be remanded to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act and Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960.
