ACTRESS Melissa Saila may (pic) not have known the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee personally but she is grateful to have family ties with the legendary actor, Berita Harian reported.

Melissa’s mother is actress Mariani Ismail, the older sister of Puan Sri Saloma, who was P. Ramlee’s wife.

“He died a year after I was born. However, my late mother and aunt always spoke about this great man whom people were proud of, revered and praised, although he was also criticised and even hated.

“My late mother told me that P. Ramlee had performed the Azan (call to prayer) when I was born.

“In fact, he even carried me during someone’s wedding,” she said.

Melissa said P. Ramlee was fond of cooking and trying new recipes.

“When he was done cooking, he would ask my mother to try out the dishes,” she said.

“He did not have a lot of money but he always tried to help his friends who came to his house seeking assistance.”

Melissa said claims that P. Ramlee faced so much hardship that he only ate eggs were untrue. In fact, she said he just liked to eat eggs.

But she said she knew her uncle was under-appreciated in his day.

> “Please help me, father. It is too painful.”

The plea from Nur Nazihah Mohd Sabri broke the heart of Mohd Sabri Mohd Nor each time he thought of his eight-year-old girl, Berita Harian also reported.

She was stung 60 times by hornets while playing near her home in Dungun, Terengganu, last Friday.

His wife rushed the girl to a clinic.

“Nazihah was still conscious but she was in severe pain,” he said.

“Nazihah was conscious on Friday and Saturday, but (on Sunday) she got weaker and lost consciousness.”

Nur Nazihah died at a hospital in Kuala Terengganu on the same day.
