KLUANG: Some 91 people were arrested in the wee hours of the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri for mass gathering and conducting dangerous stunts on the road.
Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Abduh Ismail said that they were arrested between midnight and around 6am on Sunday (May 24) during an operation led by five police officers and 26 personnel.
"We started the operation around midnight and by about 2am, we had blocked all the roads at areas around the Kluang stadium.
"During the operation, we found a group of people gathering at the area to watch dangerous motorcycle stunts," he said in a statement later Sunday (May 24).
He added that the group tried to escape when they noticed the police arriving.
"They tried to escape and about 10 motorcycles rammed into one of the roadblocks, causing injuries to one of the policemen manning the roadblock.
"He suffered light injuries on his arm, waist and legs," he said.
ACP Abduh added that the police then surrounded the area and arrested 91 individuals, including one woman.
"We also seized six cars and 74 motorcycles," he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Sections 353 and 269 of the Penal Code, Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act, and Rule 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020.
