PJ Old Town wet market closed for disinfection (Updated)

PETALING JAYA: Pasar Besar Jalan Othman here - which is also known as the PJ Old Town market - has been closed as of Monday (April 27) for a disinfection exercise after a 51-year-old trader from the market's fish section tested positive for Covid-19.

The premises were sealed off this morning to undergo the disinfection, and the market will be closed for five days.

"A screening will be carried out there at 9am on Wednesday, ” said Petaling district officer Johary Anuar.

Johari also said that the trader who was infected was probably part of the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market Covid-19 cluster, adding that the trader tested positive last Friday (April 24).

He added that those who were in contact with the Jalan Othman wet market traders in Petaling Jaya should get screened for Covid-19.

“We urge the 21 traders and their assistants from the fish section to come forward for screening, ” said Johary.

There are 578 market traders at the Jalan Othman wet market.

Johary said the public who were in contact with the wet market traders from April 5 to 18 are advised to visit the Kelana Jaya SS6 and Taman Medan health clinics for screening.
