Three districts in Perak declared green zones

IPOH: Three districts in Perak are now categorised as green zones, as no new Covid-19 cases have surfaced in the past 14 days.

They are Muallim, Kuala Kangsar and Kampar, which had its status changed to yellow earlier this week.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic) said the changes were great news to the state and hoped to see improvements in other districts.

“The state is on the right path towards breaking the chain of the Covid-19 transmissions.

“But this does not necessarily mean that people are free to walk about in these three districts, ” he said after a presentation ceremony of personal protection equipment to frontliners at the state secretariat building here yesterday.

Faizal said he understood that people were getting restless as the movement control order (MCO) had been extended to April 28.

“I hope people can continue to be disciplined and remain at home.

“There is some talk going around about not allowing people from Ipoh, which is a red zone, to go into the green zones. Even if it’s a joke, there is some truth to it. We don’t want to have green zones to become orange or red. Let’s maintain the green zones and hopefully, the country and the whole world can get rid of Covid-19 so we can get back on with our lives, ” he said.

It was reported that Kampar was no longer considered a green zone as there were two Covid-19 cases in the district after the state Health Department coordinated its data.

Before this, Kampar was among only four districts in peninsula Malaysia categorised as green zones; along with Yan in Kedah, Machang in Kelantan, and Hulu Terengganu.

Perak Health Department director Dr Ding Lay Ming, who was present, hoped the positive trend could continue.

“People should continue staying at home, practise social distancing and wash hands, as these are the most important things to do.”
