Drunk driver arrested for crashing into roadblock during MCO

PETALING JAYA: Not only did a man here contravene the movement control order (MCO), he rammed into the back of a police car during a roadblock – while under the influence of alcohol.

It was the second such incident in two days.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the 61-year-old suspect crashed into the back of a police car at an MCO roadblock near the PJS2 toll plaza at around 9.30pm on Thursday.

“We arrested the suspect and a breathalyser test revealed that the suspect’s blood alcohol level was over the permitted level, ” he told reporters after visiting the latest road closures at Mutiara Damansara and Damansara Perdana yesterday.

The suspect was also issued a RM1,000 compound for defying the MCO.

ACP Nik Ezanee said the police were investigating the case under Section 45(A)(1) and Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for driving under the influence and reckless driving respectively.

“This made it two such incidents in two days; we do not wish to see any more repeats or worse, casualties, ” he said.

On April 8, a 33-year-old man was arrested for driving while under the influence.

The suspect was driving haphazardly when approaching a roadblock on the Sprint Highway at about 9.15pm.

Meanwhile, on the road closures, ACP Nik Ezanee said police had anticipated heavy traffic yesterday morning.

“The same happened when we set up the roadblock at Persiaran Surian but we are more prepared this time.

“Motorists should plan their trips and only come out if necessary, ” he said, adding that the road closures were made after discussion with the Brickfields OCPD.
