JOHOR BARU: The state Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) is planning to invest more in its Agrobazaar online service due to popular demand since the movement control order (MCO) started.
Johor Agriculture, Agro-based and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Samsolbari Jamali said that the platforms serve as a medium for members of the public to buy groceries without the need of going out of their homes.
He added that the application was introduced by the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry (MOA) back in 2014 to help bridge supply and demand from farmers to consumers.
“Fama has recently changed the contents sold to fresh fruits, veggies, seafood, poultry, and meat in order to cope with the current needs of the people.
“In Johor alone, we have 1,410 farmers registered under the programme where each produce is sold online at an affordable price and is guaranteed fresh, ” he said when met by reporters after visiting Pasar Tani Datin Halimah here on Sunday (April 5).
Samsolbari added that the app would also ensure that the source of income for farmers would not be cut off during the MCO.
He also informed that Fama would then deliver each online order to the customers located within 30km from the Pasar Tani Datin Halimah and Fama centre at Tampoi, that covers the area from Gelang Patah to Pasir Gudang.
“There is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of delivery and payment method, which we are looking into, aside from expanding the delivery centre to other districts in the state, ” he said.
