MIRI: Three men have been arrested by Sarawak police for organising a cock-fighting session in a village during the movement control order (MCO) period.
The trio will not only be charged with violating the MCO but also for illegal betting and committing cruelty towards animals.
Sarawak CID chief Senior Asst Comm Denis Leong said a CID team carried out the raid in Kampung Gersik Petra Jaya on the outksirts of Kuching on Saturday (March 28) afternoon.
"The CID team from Sarawak police headquarters carried out the raid after receiving information on cock-fighting activities there.
"We arrested three men, aged from 35 to 47 years old, during the raid," he said Sunday (March 29).
SAC Leong said the arrested trio will be charged with illegal betting and will also be charged with committing cruelty towards animals.
They face another charge for violating the MCO under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Regulation, he added.
The charge for violating the MCO carries a jail term of up to two years and fine of up to RM10,000 upon conviction.
