Party ends abruptly as cops nab 30 for violating MCO

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 30 people, including two teenagers, for disobeying the movement control order (MCO) and attending a private party at Jalan Tanjung Puteri here.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Shahurinain Jais said all suspects, aged from 15 to 26, were arrested during a raid Saturday (March 28) night at four separate locations, including three houses and a basement.

“Urine tests conducted revealed that 17 of the suspects were positive for drugs with 10 testing positive for methamphetamine and seven for ketamine, ” he said in a statement here Sunday (March 29).

The suspects who tested positive for drugs are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for administering drugs, which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a maximum jail term of two years.

The case is also investigated under Rule 7 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (PCID) (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Currently, all suspects are awaiting a remand order from the court.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, ACP Shahurinain said the police has also arrested three women, including two teens, during a roadblock at Sultan Iskandar Highway on Saturday at about 7.30pm here.

“One of the suspects, a 20-year-old female, was arrested under Section 12 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possessing 0.5g of ketamine, ” he said, adding that all suspects are currently under remand.
