Labis family goes the extra mile to sanitise public areas

LABIS: Three brothers are playing their part to safeguard their community against the Covid-19 outbreak by voluntarily spraying disinfectant and sanitising public areas here.

Using portable water jets and pressure pumps, they would go around Labis, Chaah and Bekok daily.

Businessman Go Chin Chuan, 45, his brothers Chin Hok, 55, and Cheng Sheng, 40, have been doing it since March 16.

He said his wife Tan Lon Sin, 43, would drive them around in their four-wheel drive to spray the disinfectant.

Chin Chuan said they would target public places including halls, fire stations, clinics, train stations and playgrounds.

“So far, we have four portable machines which we use daily, ” he said, adding that sanitising was important to kill the Covid-19 virus and this was done in China and other countries.

He said he was spurred to act as he was worried for his family, including his three daughters aged 12, nine and eight.

“Anyway, we also have many elderly people in our area, ” he said, adding that he decided to do this on a voluntary basis as he understood that government agencies were spread thin due to the crisis.

Chin Chuan, who uses bleach, said he received advice from a doctor on the best chemical to kill the virus and was also advised to dilute it, take personal precautions and to spray when people were not around.

So far, he has spent about RM2,000.

Chin Chuan, who has been receiving many requests from people in his neighbourhood, said he would continue to do this until the outbreak ends.

He said his wife, who is a local councillor, was supportive of their efforts and would ensure that the brothers wore proper protective gear before they start their daily spraying which would last between one and two hours.

Bekok assemblyman Dr S. Ramakrishnan commended the family for their civic consciousness.

He urged local councils to start sanitising public places regularly.
