PETALING JAYA: Residents of two areas in the Kluang district in Johor, will not be able to leave their homes for two weeks when the government implements an enhanced movement control (MCO) order from 12.01am Friday (March 27).

The government will implement the enhanced MCO after 61 positive Covid-19 cases were identified in Kampung Datuk Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Datuk Ibrahim Majid.

With this order, local residents and visitors are not allowed to leave or enter the areas for the duration.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said the decision was made after advice from the Health Ministry.

The enhanced order involves 3,570 locals from 650 families and will take effect from March 27 to April 9.

During this period, visitors will also not be allowed into both areas while all business activities will be stopped.

Ismail Sabri said that basic foodstuff for the 14-day duration will be supplied to residents by the Social Welfare Department.

“The reason we are implementing this is to prevent the further spread of Covid-19 from the affected areas.

"This will enable the tracking operation of cases from house to house for 14 days, ” said Ismail Sabri, adding that all together, 83 cases of Covid-19 were detected in Kluang.

He added that a medical base would be opened there while all roads to the areas would be closed.

“All resident are requested to be calm and to give their cooperation to Health Ministry staff and to obey the orders of the authorities, ” he added.

Residents who need assistance can contact the special hotline at 07-773 5224/ 07-772 2434.
