Hamzah ‘the right man for Home Ministry’

PETALING JAYA: Appointing someone with experience like Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin to helm an important portfolio such as the Home Ministry was a right move, says MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

“He is a man of wisdom and would be the right man for the job. And I’m sure the Prime Minister would have consulted the relevant agencies in the Home Ministry before making the appointment, ” he said.

Chong, who is also Rela honorary commissioner, said having two deputies in the ministry was also an appropriate decision.

“You can ask anyone, and they will say that the Home Ministry is a large portfolio. They have the police, Immigration Department and Prisons Department, among others, under its jurisdiction. And that’s not including the other sub-branches.“They will have a tough job. From the start, they will have to deal

with fake news circulating regarding Covid-19, ” he added.

Malaysians Against Rape, Assault and Snatch Theft (Marah) founder Dave Avran said Hamzah’s previous experience as Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister would serve him well in his new role.

“He successfully overcame the palm oil smear campaign by certain countries by countering it with an information blitz.

“I think he is a good choice and will do well, ” he added.Association of certified fraud examiners president Datuk Akhbar Satar agreed it was a good move to have three people heading the ministry to share the responsibilities.

Akhbar, who is also a criminologist, said the new minister and his deputies must have a strong political will to keep the peace and tackle problems such as drugs and human trafficking.
