Bersatu to launch probe if reports lodged against Mukhriz and Saddiq

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir and Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman can be investigated for not supporting Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s candidate for prime minister.

Bersatu disciplinary board chief Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas said they were prepared to launch an investigation against the deputy president and Youth chief if there was any report lodged against them.

“Action will be taken if the allegations are proven, ” he said yesterday.

Megat Najmuddin was asked to comment on calls to probe Mukhriz who claimed that Bersatu never endorsed Muhyiddin as its choice to be prime minister.

He said the disciplinary body would be having a meeting tomorrow to decide on the matter.

Mukhriz had said Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was the party’s sole candidate for the prime minister’s post and this was decided in a supreme council meeting on Wednesday.

The party’s deputy president also said that the onus was on him to inform the party’s grassroots that Muhyiddin did not have the council’s endorsement, and that Dr Mahathir was still the party chairman.

Mukhriz said he was also prepared to be sacked from the party.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq had reportedly said that he was firm on his stance not to work with Umno en bloc.

“I disagreed with the decision to team up with Umno en bloc.

“They are a party with corrupt leaders and I refuse to work with them.

“Whatever decision is made by the party on me, let it be because I stood my ground and sided with the truth, ” said Syed Saddiq.

The Muar MP explained that he joined Bersatu because he wanted to fight corruption and abuse of power.
