Tok Mat praises Malaysians for their maturity in accepting new leadership

SEREMBAN: Malaysians should be commended for their maturity and patience in accepting the change in leadership, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan (pic).

The Umno deputy president said Malaysians did not panic or act hastily following the change in the political landscape and this only showed their level of maturity.

"Thank you, Malaysia, for showing how progressive, patient and responsible you are.

"What we have all learnt and must appreciate from this episode is just how mature we are for we did not take to the streets to demonstrate," he said in a statement on Monday (March 2).

On Saturday (Feb 29), Yang di- Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al- Mustafa Billah Shah said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would be the nation's next prime minister, abnd he was sworn in on Sunday (March 1).

Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president, was picked as Sultan Abdullah believed he had the backing of the majority of MPs.

Mohamad also thanked the King for his role in ending the leadership crisis.

He said Muhyiddin and his allies must now do their all to regain the trust of the people.

"Although the current political landscape is dominated by three Malay parties, the people wants the new leadership to be the government for all Malaysians.

"The country must be managed using an inclusive and just approach as every Malaysian has his or her right, priority and importance," he said.

Mohamad said the utmost priority for the new leadership was to revitalise the economy.

"Efforts must be doubled to rejuvenate the economy," he said.

He said Malaysians should not forget that every one of them wished the best for their own country.

"What all of us, irrespective of race or religion need to do now is to work harder and come up with innovative ideas for a better Malaysia," he said.

Mohamad said Malaysians now need to put their differences aside and concentrate on the future.

"Now is the time for us to come back together as one race and one country," he added.
