Dr M: Special Parliament session on March 2 to determine who has majority, otherwise snap polls

PUTRAJAYA: A special Dewan Rakyat sitting will be convened on March 2 to determine who will be the next prime minister, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Interim Prime Minister said this was the conclusion of his meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the Istana Negara on Thursday (Feb 27).

“After meeting with Members of Parliament for two days, there was no prime minister candidate with a distinct majority.

“So the King said the right forum to decide will be Dewan Rakyat.

“So on March 2, a Parliament session will be called to determine who has the majority of support, ” said Dr Mahathir at a press conference after unveiling the Economic Stimulus Package 2020.

Dr Mahathir said if the Dewan Rakyat failed to determine who should be prime minister, a snap election would be called.

He also confirmed that he had decided to become Bersatu chairman again.

When asked whether Bersatu would rejoin Pakatan, Dr Mahathir he had to consult the party first.

“I have to find out what the members think, ” he said.
