Real time awaits four after real crime with fake gun

SUBANG JAYA: Fake gun, real crime. Now four men have to do real time behind bars.

A group of robbers were taken down by the police after a botched robbery on Monday (Feb 10) led to the arrest of one of their members.

The four men held up an eatery along Jalan USJ 18/9, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun.

One of the four pointed the "weapon" at a worker while stealing two packets of cigarettes.

However, the other workers and customers in the shop came to the victim's aid and a scuffle ensued.

"The suspect holding the weapon was subdued, while his three accomplices escaped. Closer inspections showed that the weapon was a toy gun," said Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Risikin Satiman in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 11).

"Following the incident, I instructed that the suspects involved be traced," he added.

Within 24 hours, the police had rounded up the remaining three suspects, with separate raids in the Shah Alam area.

"A black toy gun and two bottles with 100 plastic bullets were seized, along with the car that they had used to get away.

"All four suspects had no criminal records. They confessed to the crime during police questioning," Asst Comm Risikin said.

The suspects, who are in their 20s, have been remanded until Feb 17. Three of the four are college students. The last member of the "quartet" is unemployed.

He added that follow-up investigations are ongoing to ascertain if the group was linked to other cases.
