PETALING JAYA: Deputy Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay has been appointed the new Johor police chief.

The Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division (E8) head will replace Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din as Johor's top cop.

Inspector-General of Police Secretariat corporate communications head Senior Asst Comm Datuk Asmawati Ahmad said Comm Mohd Kamaruddin will be transferred to the Bukit Aman Management Department (Administration).

"Datuk Ayob will be promoted to the rank of commissioner.

"The transfer and promotion will be in effect on March 6," she said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 6).

DCP Ayob has been in the forefront of Bukit Aman's efforts against terrorism for several years.

Hailing from Pendang, Kedah, DCP Ayob led the E8 in combating terrorism. He was instrumental in the division's success in thwarting various terror plots and nabbing more than 500 militants since February, 2013.
