Droneport in Melaka to open in March

MELAKA: From March, enthusiasts of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) can use the Sungai Rambai Aerodrome in Jasin here as a "droneport".

Melaka public works, transportation and public utilities committee chairman Datuk Mohd Sofi Abdul Wahab said the state government had concluded discussions to reactive the airfield that has been left idle since last year.

"The site will be exclusively for drones enthusiasts," he said.

Mohd Sofi said the Jasin Municipal Council had been maintaining the site and the cost of reactivating it was minimal.

"The hangar, runway and facilities at the site are still in good condition," he said.

Mohd Sofi also said an aviation firm was also keen to use the site for training and testing unmanned aerial systems.

"We are still in the stage of discussion with the firm," he added.
