NIBONG TEBAL: Five people who were queuing up to use an ATM machine at a bank here were rushed to hospital while another victim was treated at the scene due to suspected chemical poisoning.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a distress call from the bank located at Jalan Besar Sungai Bakap here at 1.06pm on Saturday (Jan 11).
"Upon arriving, we found the victims were vomiting and experiencing headaches.
"Five were sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital while another victim was treated by medical personnel at the scene," he said in a statement.
Firemen from the Sungai Bakap fire station who were deployed to the scene, donned breathing equipment when conducting inspection of the area.
They also sealed off the area to prevent the public from getting close to the building.
It was learnt that the bank was being treated for pests and anti-termite chemicals had been sprayed around the bank.
Investigations are ongoing and no other casualties have been reported.
