BEAUFORT: Graft investigators have cleared Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal of alleged money politics while campaigning in the Kimanis by-election.

This is because a viral picture of the Chief Minister distributing money to the people occurred at a mosque in Sandakan.

Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Karunanithy Subbaih said that Shafie was giving out money to the needy after Friday prayers at Masjid Datuk Pangeran Galpam in Sandakan on Jan 3.

"Following the viral picture being spread in social media, MACC carried out investigations to ascertain if there was truth to the claims of money being distributed in Kimanis," he said on Tuesday (Jan 7).

He added that the issue had nothing to do with the Kimanis by-election as claimed in the social media posts.
