Dr M calls on civil servants to adopt new year’s resolution to make M’sia great

PUTRAJAYA: Make it a new year’s resolution to help Malaysia become a developed nation, Dr Mahathir Mohamad told civil servants.

In the first monthly assembly of 2020 for the Prime Minister’s Department on Monday (Jan 6), the prime minister called on all government servants to work hard so Malaysia could achieve its aim of becoming a developed country by 2030.

“I hope that the year 2020 will be a meaningful one for all of us. May it be the starting point for Malaysia to achieve great success and that by 2030, we can become a developed nation, ”

“Make a new year’s resolution. A resolution to help develop the country so we can stand tall among other developed countries.

“Celebrate the new year by having a resolution that not just benefits our own selves, but also the country.

“I believe if we work hard enough, we can achieve all of our dreams, ” said Dr Mahathir in his address.

Dr Mahathir said Malaysian had shown that it can compete with the developed countries through its capability in advanced technology.

“Today, we are able to produce our own advanced tools such as drones, which is useful for national development.

“We will continue to involve ourselves in producing such advanced technology, so that we will be seen as a modern country that is on par with other developed countries, ” he said.

Dr Mahathir also called on civil servants to work together with all Malaysians in ensuring that the country can deliver on the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV2030).

“The government has introduced the Shared Prosperity Vision, but all of us need to put in a lot of effort to ensure the success of this programme.

“Government action alone is not enough. The vision must also be embraced and accepted by the rakyat, ” he said.

The prime minister pointed out that the aim of SPV2030 was to reduce the disparity that exists between rural and urban areas, states, regions, as well as different races.

He also said the rich in Malaysia play a big role in helping the poor to prosper.

“Rich Malaysians help the country to prosper because they pay higher taxes. We need their tax money for development, and they should also do some CSR (corporate social responsibility) to help the poor, ” he said.
