MIRI: A gas leak at a shoplot in the Kuala Baram Permyjaya commercial centre along the Miri-Brunei highway was swiftly contained before it posed a danger to the public on Friday (Dec 27).
The Miri Fire and Rescue Department and the state government gas utility supplier - Sarawak Gas - managed to plug the leak that occurred behind the block of shops.
Next to the shops are restaurants and a bank.
In an update, the department said it received an alert about the leak at around 6am and assured the public that the leak had been successfully contained.
Firemen also cordoned off the area while Sarawak Gas technicians carried out urgent repairs.
The leak was traced to a faulty piping system that channels cooking gas into the three-storey building.
The point of leak on the pipeline was located in the back lane of the shoplots.
Miri fire chief Law Poh Kiong assured the public that Sarawak Gas has dealt with the leakage, posing no threat to the public.
The commercial centre is located about 15km north of Miri city.
