KUALA LUMPUR: The Government needs more time to find a strategic partner for Malaysia Airlines (MAS) as current proposals are not attractive enough, says Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
He said the matter was discussed during Khazanah Nasional Bhd's board meeting on Dec 17, where the proposals were presented its chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"So, the chairman and the board agreed that we should look into other options before we can come up with a final decision," he told reporters at the sidelines of the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 here.
Over 20 potential investors were shortlisted to be MAS' strategic partner.
Azmin had previously said that some potential partners had suggested taking over a majority share of the airline, while others proposed that Khazanah maintains its shares in MAS.
He had said that a decision on MAS' strategic partner is expected to be finalised by early next year.
Azmin, who is also on Khazanah's board of directors, also revealed that Khazanah received proposals from both regional and international players.
