KUALA LUMPUR: The brakes on a cement mixer failed along Jalan KL-Seremban here, causing the fully-laden lorry to crash through the road divider and into the path of opposing traffic.
Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shariat said the incident occurred at around 11am on Saturday (Dec 14).
"The lorry was travelling with a load of cement from Bandar Rinching to Broga when it experienced brake failure while driving down a hilly section.
"The lorry driver tried to avoid hitting cars in front of it by veering into the centre road divider," he said.
He added that the lorry went through the divider and hit eight vehicles in the opposing lane.
"The lorry was taken to the Kajang police headquarters for a Puspakom evaluation.
"No one was injured in the accident," he said.
In an unrelated case, a hit and run accident occurred along KM12 of the Cheras-Kajang Expressway.
Supt Azman said the incident was believed to have occurred at around 11.30pm on Friday.
"We received a report from a car driver who was driving near the Batu 9 toll plaza when he switched to the right lane and was hit by another car.
"The driver of the other car allegedly refused to stop after the collision and a short chase occurred, heading towards Bukit Dukung, before the driver of the first car ceased the pursuit," he said.
The driver of the first car lodged a police report at the Kajang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.
Supt Azman said preliminary investigations revealed the accident happened as both drivers switched lanes at the same time and collided with each other.
"We have identified the driver of the other car and ordered the individual to come to the Kajang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and lodge a police report immediately," he said.
