IPOH: The two Perak DAP assemblymen who quit their party committee positions have announced their return to the line-up.

In a joint press statement issued on Saturday (Nov 23), Malim Nawar and Pokok Assam assemblymen Leong Cheok Keng and Leow Thye Yih respectively, announced that they have decided to return after being advised by Perak executive council member and Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong.

They said Yong had called on them to rejoin the committee "numerous" times.

"We felt his sincerity and accepted it. The Tanjung Piai by-election loss was a 'wake up call' and we felt a responsibility to strengthen the position and image of the party," they said in the statement.

"As part of Pakatan Harapan, we believe as long as we stand united, we can strengthen the stability of the state government. We can also continue to contribute to the country with good policies, giving hope and a better future to the people," they added.

It was reported that both Leong and Leow - the state deputy treasurer and assistant organising secretary respectively - resigned from the committee in September, citing dissatisfaction with state party chairman Nga Kor Ming over Yong's position.

Both were said to be upset at Nga for saying that Yong's status would be discussed at a state Pakatan meeting.

This was after Yong had claimed trial to a rape charge and took leave from official duties as a state executive council member.

Yong has resumed his duties during the state assembly sitting.

He had also issued a press statement urging his supporters to continue backing the state party leadership.

The Star is trying to get Nga for comments.

In a separate statement issued by the state party committee, it said that they would hold a meeting on the matter.

“As both have resigned, they are no longer part of the committee. On their announcement, the committee will meet at a suitable time to decide on it, ” it said.
