MOTHERS whose husbands have abandoned their family responsibilities can apply for state programmes designed for single mothers with documents to prove their claims.
In reply to Rajiv Rishyakaran (Pakatan-Bukit Gasing) about the eligibility of underprivileged mothers for the state aids, State Health, Welfare, Women Empowerment and Family Committee chairman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (pic) said such mothers can lodge a police report and get a support letter from community leaders, as supporting documents to file their application.
"In order to qualify for any aid from the state Welfare Department, documents are important. We know that there are many mothers whose husbands have either abandoned or only occasionally visit their family.
"So, we consider such applications with supporting documents.
"It is much easier for us to grant help to children who have been orphaned by the demise of their fathers compared to children abandoned by their fathers," she said.
