1MDB trial postponed as Najib has swollen eyes

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak is down with another eye-related illness, causing the 1Malaysia Development Bhd trial to be postponed.

However this time, it is believed to be from an allergy and not conjunctivitis as he had previously suffered from.

The proceeding was supposed to resume yesterday afternoon when lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah that his client had swellings in both eyes.

He said Najib went to the International Specialist Eye Centre after discovering the symptoms and suspecting it could be conjunctivitis.

“The doctor found that Najib is allergic to certain things, ” he said.

He said Najib might have to do a blood test today and later attend a by-election campaign in Johor.

He also told the court that Najib had wanted to come but the swelling was bad that it could not be covered with oversized sunglasses.

Shafee handed over microscopic photos of the eyes to the judge and the prosecution.

“Only three of us got these photos. I hope it is protected so that this would not go on the Internet and become a subject of Halloween, ” said Shafee.

Justice Sequerah then adjourned the proceeding. The hearing continues on Monday.
