KUALA LUMPUR: Former Johor mentri besar Datuk Osman Sapian has been suggested as a candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election but no decision has been made yet, says Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya.
Marzuki said Osman's name was proposed by local grassroots leaders along with a few others, but he remained tight-lipped regarding who would eventually be selected.
"His name was proposed but we have yet to make any decision," said Marzuki at the parliament lobby on Wednesday (Oct 23).
He was asked to confirm whether Osman's name was listed as one of the candidates for the Tanjung Piai by-election.
The Election Commission has set Nov 2 as the nomination day and Nov 16 as polling day for the parliamentary by-election.
The by-election was triggered after its incumbent Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, died of heart complications on Sept 21.
Asked when Pakatan Harapan would announce their candidate, Marzuki said it would be soon.
"We have identified a few dates but it hasn't been decided yet," he added.
