UM Law Society urges govt to review UUCA following convo protest

PETALING JAYA: The government has been urged to review the University and University Colleges Act 1971 (UUCA) following a protest incident involving Universiti Malaya (UM), which saw a student activist being investigated by authorities and another being barred from attending his graduation convocation.

The Universiti Malaya Law Society said the Pakatan Harapan government, which believes in student autonomy and activism, should review the UUCA as it impedes on students’ ability to participate in politics.
