BSH recipients eligible for fuel subsidies can check status online

PUTRAJAYA: The 2.9 million recipients of Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) who are eligible for fuel subsidies can start checking their status online.

They can do so at the fuel subsidy programme's official website at psp.kpdnhep.gov.my, said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry on Tuesday (Oct 15).

Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the fuel subsidy recipients’ data is based on the information given when applying for the BSH aid scheme.

“We also cross-checked vehicle ownership information with the Road Transport Department’s database and the ministry has identified 2.9 million individuals from the B40 group who are eligible for the fuel subsidy, ” he said in a statement.

Saifuddin, however, added that the data needed further improvement and urged those in the B40 group to check their status, adding that they can provide information under the appeal section of the portal if their name is not listed.

He also advised car owners who are eligible for the BSH to register as a recipient if their car is eligible for subsidies.

“BSH recipients who have just bought a type of vehicle that allows them to receive the fuel subsidy should register with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and submit an application for the subsidy, ” he said.

The minister pointed out that the list uploaded in the portal does not include people who are eligible for the fuel subsidy even though they are not BSH recipients, adding that the process for them to submit their application will be announced later.

Under the fuel subsidy scheme, a car must have a 1,600cc engine and below or be more than 10 years old with an engine that is 1,600cc and above.

All eligible motorcycles must be 150cc and below and if it is over 150cc, it must be at least seven years old.

No luxury vehicles may receive the targeted subsidies.

For eligible BSH recipients, the petrol subsidy receivable will be RM30 per month for car owners and RM12 per month for motorcycle owners.

This subsidy will be in the form of a cash transfer deposited into the recipient’s account every four months, with the first transfer to be made in April 2020 for the first four months of the year.

Motorists who are not BSH recipients will receive a special Kad95 allowing them to enjoy the fuel subsidy at a discount of 30 sen per litre limited to 100 litres per month for cars or 40 litres per month for motorcycles when purchasing RON95 at the petrol station.

The Kad95 will be implemented progressively during the first quarter of 2020.
