IPOH: The eviction of the permaculture farmstay in Lenggong by the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP) will be brought up at the Perak state executive council meeting.

State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Tan Kar Hing (pic) said he would bring up the matter to the meeting and see how they could intervene.

"I understand that PKNP is having a meeting with the Mentri Besar's office on this.

"I know the farmstay operator wants to extend or reapply for a new lease for the land, so we could talk about it," he said when met during the announcement of the Perak Bikers Carnival 2019 at Movie Animation Parks Studio here on Thursday (Oct 3).

"By right, the decision is purely by PKNP but we will see what we can do after the state exco meeting," he added.

It was reported that the farmstay has been served with an eviction notice after it failed to make timely rent payments.

The farmstay was said to have been featured in a National Geographic programme and had hosted about 1,000 visitors locally and from abroad.

Tan said he was aware of the issue last year but did not follow through as it was a "commercial decision" then between PKNP and the owners.

"I have checked with the district officer, district council president and PKNP.

"And according to a report provided, the local community is also strongly against the extension of the lease to the permaculture farm," he said.

"I also understood that both sides had agreed to the vacation of the land," he said, adding that he was still open to meeting the owners.

On the carnival, Tan said it would be held at the theme park from Oct 18 to 20.

He said some 5,000 people are expected to take part in it.
