Car ploughs through safety barriers at KL Standard Chartered Marathon

PETALING JAYA: A car crashed into runners at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon 2019 after it ploughed through safety barriers.

This was according to the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon's official Facebook page Sunday (Sept 29), which also stated that the affected runners are currently receiving medical treatment.

"We are also cooperating with the relevant authorities and will provide an update when more information regarding the incident is clear," it said in the post.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was also informed of the incident and took to Twitter to express his concerns.

"I was informed that some runners in the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon suffered injuries due to a hit and run incident. My thoughts and prayers are with those injured and their families.

"I hope the authorities will take swift action in finding the wrongdoer which broke through the safety barriers, and for the organiser to assist the injured victims in whatever ways possible. We prioritise the safety of the rakyat foremost," said Syed Saddiq.

No police reports have been lodged at the time of writing.
