Police shoot four dead after robbery in Kajang

SEPANG: The police have killed four armed men believed to be part of a robbery syndicate in a gun battle.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the suspects had initially robbed a family at Taman Segar Perdana near Kajang around 7.30am on Monday (Sept 23).

"The suspects, armed with machetes, forced the family of five into the dining area while they ransacked the house. They took valuables including money in local and foreign currencies, watches, and jewellery before fleeing the scene in the family's Mercedes Benz CLS car," he told reporters at the Sepang police headquarters on Monday.

He said based on the information given by the family, all police personnel on duty were told to be on the lookout for the car.

"A task force on armed robberies also went on their patrols and spotted a car matching the description at the basement of the Sky Park apartment building about 2 hours after the robbery.

"They approached the vehicle and a man standing near a Volkswagen Passat car nearby suddenly lunged at the police personnel with a parang," he said adding that his personnel also heard gunshots coming from the Mercedes and opened fire in self-defence.

He said four suspects died at the scene.

"One of the suspects was aged 35 and has 20 criminal records including robberies, theft, break-ins and drug-related cases.

"Another suspect was aged 45 and has 16 records for crimes similar to the first suspect," he said, adding that the third suspect was identified as a 29-year-old who has one record while the fourth suspect has yet to be identified.
