PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s long-term economic direction based on the Shared Prosperity Vision will be discussed in the special Cabinet meeting slated for Saturday (Sept 14), says Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
The Shared Prosperity Vision is aimed at ensuring all Malaysians reach a decent standard of living by 2030, said Azmin in a statement posted on his Instagram page on Thursday (Sept 12).
The Shared Prosperity Vision was announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in October 2018 when tabling the 11th Malaysia Plan midterm review and was highlighted in his speech on May 9 this year in conjunction with Pakatan Harapan’s first full year in power.
“The new vision shows the government’s commitment to restructure the economy to ensure that it grows continually and sustainably as well as bring harmony to all citizens.
“The aim of this vision is for all Malaysians to achieve a decent standard of living by 2030, ” said Azmin.
He also said that the vision will encompass the 12th Malaysia Plan and the 13th Malaysia Plan, with the budget for both plans being aligned with the Shared Prosperity Vision.
“The Budget 2020, which will be tabled this coming October, will be a preparation budget for all parties to get ready to surge forward when the 12th Malaysia Plan starts in 2021, ” he said.
The 10-year timeframe set to realise this vision required strategic cooperation from all parties and will be the joint responsibility of the Federal Government, state governments, local authorities, the private sector and all Malaysians, added Azmin.
