KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is elated with paralympian Jonathan Wong Kar Gee's “gold” winning performance at the Handisport Open World Grand Prix Para Athletic Tournament in Paris on National Day.

State Youth and Sports Minister Phoong Jin Zhe said the 28-year-old long jumper Wong made everyone in the state proud by winning gold when he leapt 7.03m in the T-11-12 category for vision impairment.

“We are proud of his win. I am sure he will be an inspiration to our youths to strive harder, ” Phoong said when contacted Sunday (Sept 1).

He said the Sabah government will also discuss some kind of incentive for Wong due to his outstanding performance that brought pride not only to the state but the whole country.

The national paralympian from Kota Kinabalu has been representing Malaysia in various international events over the past few years.

His gold winning jump in Paris on Saturday (Aug 31), however, was far below his personal best of 7.22m.

“We hope our youths will be inspired by his performance in the international arena, ” he added.
