PETALING JAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy is aiming to collaborate with malls in an effort to promote unity among Malaysians.

The Minister in charge of National Unity and Social Wellbeing said malls were the meeting point for Malaysians from all racial backgrounds, adding that 70% of people visited malls.

“So we want to take this opportunity to collaborate with malls in the government’s effort to instill unity among the people, ” he said to reporters after officiating the National Unity Week with IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on Sunday (Sept 1).

Waytha also said the government planned to encourage malls to be its “unity partner”, adding that more programmes would be organised in future, such as cultural and local food programmes.

“Maybe we can get NGOs or cultural associations to have an exhibition and such to explain the way of life and cultural backgrounds of other races.

“That is among our proposals, ” he said.

Waytha also acknowledged that IOI City Mall was the first mall to collaborate with the government.

“We will contact all main malls in the country and hold discussions for them to participate in these programs,” he added.
