PETALING JAYA: Police announced road closures in preparations for about 300,000 people attending Merdeka celebrations at Putrajaya this year.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Roslan Bek Ahmad said the Merdeka parade was expected to begin around 7.30am and end by noon.
"The road closure will start from 6am and will last until the parade is over.
"The effected roads are Laman Perdana, Persiaran Perdana, Lebuh Saujana, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Lebuh Wawasan, Lebuh Bestari, Jalan Pembangunan, Jalan Kemerdekaan, and Lebuh Setia," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 28).
According to DCP Roslan, about 5,000 public parking lots have been allocated, along with shuttle busses to aid the traffic congestion.
"There are three shuttle bus zones. Zone A will have pick-up points in Putrajaya Sentral, My Farm, and Ayer 8, with passengers dropped off at Kiblat Walk.
"The Zone B and C pick-up points are at Presint 14, Higher Education Ministry, Taman Seri Empangan, and Kompleks E parking area, which will have passengers dropped off behind the Palace of Justice," he said.
DCP Roslan advised those attending the celebration to use public transportation and plan their travel to avoid being caught in a traffic jam.
"Please follow all instructions of the policemen on the ground and do not park your vehicles indiscriminately on the side of the road.
"Vehicles deemed to be blocking traffic will be towed," he said.
He also advised everyone to keep their belongings safe and watch out for pickpockets.
"Further enquiries can be made by calling Putrajaya police headquarters at 03-88862222, or Kuala Lumpur traffic hotline at 03-20719777," he said.
