KUALA LUMPUR: Two people were arrested during protest over khat calligraphy for Tamil schools here on Friday (Aug 23).
Police said the two were brought in to have their statement recorded after the rally at Little India in Brickfields went ahead despite police saying the application for the rally was incomplete.
Acting Brickfields police chief Supt Arifai Tarawe said despite the arrests, the rally went smoothly without any untoward incidents on Friday.
The crowd began gathering from about 6pm and organisers started holding speeches around 7pm.
“One of the men arrested was an organiser.
“The crowd of about 500 people, started dispersing slowly after gathering for about 15 minutes, ” Supt Arifai told reporters at the scene.
He added that the two would be investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act.
