Welfare Dept comes to aid of Kelantan family surviving on chicken skin meals

PETALING JAYA: The Kelantan Welfare Department has come to the assistance of a family in Kuala Krai who have been eating chicken skin for meals.

The special officer to Kuala Krai Pakatan Harapan chairman Tuan Lokman Tuan Soh noted that the family's story was brought to the attention of the state welfare department, and an officer had visited the family on Tuesday (Aug 20).

Tuan Lokman, in a statement, said that immediate aid of RM200 has been given to the family, while the officer has assisted in filling up the necessary documents for monthly financial assistance from the government.

It was reported that Siti Hamidah Abdul Hamid would collect chicken skin from a school in Kuala Krai to feed her husband Muhamad Zuhaidi Safin and three daughters.

"We can only afford proper food like meat or fish once a week, and the rest of the week, we will eat whatever kitchen waste that I can scavenge from the school canteen," she was quoted by Bernama.

Muhamad Zuhaidi said that with his unstable income as a labourer and house rental of RM100 a month, it was hard for him to provide better food for his family.
