MELAKA: Islamic preacher Dr Zakir Naik should visit Melaka and see for himself how the local population live harmoniously in the historical state. says Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari.
However, Adly said Melaka was sticking to its ban on any religious talks that could disrupt racial unity.
“He is welcome to visit Melaka as a tourist and see how the icons of various civilisations and ethnicities in the state sparkle, ” he said on Wednesday (Aug 21) when reporters asked whether the ban on any form of public speaking by Zakir would be enforced even after the preacher apologised.
Meanwhile, the Melaka Consumer and Environment Association's (PPASM) education and women bureau chief Azizah Harun praised Adly for prioritising the close bond of Melakans.
“Some groups probably would criticise him, but the majority of us in Melaka want peace and to live blissfully.
“Melaka has been a haven for unity since the time of the Melaka sultanate, ” she said).
