LAHAD DATU: After living in fear and torment for the past 14 years, a woman finally found the courage to seek justice against her adoptive father who had allegedly raped her during the period.
District police chief Asst Comm Nasri Mansor said the woman was only 12 years old when her adoptive father started raping her in 2004.
"Her biological parents were divorced and she was placed under the care of the suspect.
"She was raped many times while living with him. She couldn't tell anyone because the suspect threatened to kill her and her family.
"She left his house to live with her biological mum after she could no longer bear the abuse.
"She was raped multiple times between 2004 and December 2018 in two squatter areas and a housing area," he said on Sunday (Aug 4).
The victim, now 27, lodged a police report on July 28 and was referred to Hospital Lahad Datu.
"The doctor found old tears in the victim's hymen," ACP Nasri said.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
ACP Nasri said police are currently looking for the suspect.
