KUALA LUMPUR: About 30 police personnel have been detained in connection with drug-related offences so far this year, says Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador.
The Inspector-General of Police said it was problematic that his own personnel were involved in drug abuse when the police are going all out against the drug menace.
"I am disappointed at reports of my own men being arrested each week for drug offences, " he said, adding that many of those caught were methamphetamine users.
"However, we are addressing the matter. We will take action against the bad apples, " he told a press conference after launching the "Autism: Police Standard Operating Procedures" roadshow on Monday (July 29).
The police are targeting drug hotspots and drug dens nationwide in an ongoing, coordinated effort, he added.
"We also hope that the Government will be able to give us a 'sharper edge' against drug trafficking syndicates.
"We hope to reduce access of drug smugglers to ferry drugs in and out of the country, " he said.
Recently, the police have also conducted an operation in Langkawi and it has crippled the drug operation there, the IGP said.
"We hope such situation can persist and we will be able to rid the country of the drug menace for good, " he said.
