Haziq’s dismissal from PKR a fair move, says former boss

KOTA BARU: PKR’s decision to sack its Santubong Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz is appropriate and fair, says his former boss. PKR information chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the decision was clear as Haziq had made baseless allegations against the party leaders over corruption and a viral sex video.

“The allegations had nothing to do with the party leadership and were baseless.

“This is a strong basis for the party to take action (against him),” said Shamsul Iskandar, who is also Deputy Primary Industries Minister.

Haziq used to work as the senior private secretary to Shamsul Iskandar.

“Our principle (is that) issues relating to the party should be resolved through internal means.

“So, when there is no strong basis for him to defend himself, I believe that the process of justice has been accorded to him,” Shamsul Iskandar told reporters at the Citra and Service Awards Ceremony of the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board here on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced Haziq’s sacking with immediate effect for breaching the party’s code of ethics.

The decision was made by the PKR’s political bureau – headed by Anwar – following a recommendation from its disciplinary board, which found that Haziq had defamed the party and intended to ruin its name.

This came three weeks after Haziq publicly confessed that he and the party’s deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali were the two men in the sex video.

On another matter, Shamsul Iskandar said he had received many applications from people of various background for the post of senior private secretary, and he promised to screen each one thoroughly before finding a replacement.

“I need time to study the applications to make sure that the appointed person can give full focus to

his responsibilities,” he added. — Bernama
