Student beaten, kicked by senior in Setiu

PETALING JAYA: A student was badly beaten and kicked by his senior, after he had made fun of him at a secondary school in Setiu, Terengganu.

The ordeal was captured in a 14-second video showing the aggressor, clad in a white T-shirt, constantly hitting the victim, who tried to protect his face with his hands.

The older boy is said to be 16, while the younger one is believed to be 14.

The incident is believed to have been recorded by the aggressor's friend.

It was reported that state Education director Shafruddin Ali confirmed the case, and had instructed the district Education office to lodge a police report on it.

"However, parents of both boys agreed to settle the matter at the school level and a police report was not made," he said when contacted on Monday (June 24).

It is learnt that the aggressor had been expelled after the incident, while about seven other students were suspended.

While he did not comment on disciplinary actions against the aggressor, Shafruddin said any expelled students could still continue schooling by appealing to other schools.

The younger victim is said to have suffered bruises, but his condition was not serious.
