PETALING JAYA: The cars are not bought for his personal use but for certain non-governmental organisations to do charity work, says Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Hitting out at the anti-graft body and the Pakatan Harapan government for repeatedly accusing him of misusing 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) funds, the former premier claimed the cars he was accused of buying were Chevrolet, costing RM67,000 each.
“The Pakatan government is weird.
“Naza was paid for selling cars but they are accused of money laundering,” he said in a Facebook post.
On Friday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) announced that it had filed a civil forfeiture suit against 41 entities comprising individuals, companies and political parties.
It aims to recover RM270mil, the biggest forfeiture by the anti-graft body so far.
The suit was filed under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
A special task force will also be formed to regain 1MDB-related assets worth US$5bil (RM21bil) abroad.
Naza Quest Auto, a subsidiary of Naza Group, is named as one of the 41 recipients.
In the post, Najib included a news report of Naza Group, explaining that the RM270,000 they received was for the purchase for four Chevrolet cars, between 2012 and 2013.
