Woman gets hand crushed in sugarcane juice machine

KOTA KINABALU: A 25-year-old trader in Tawau district was preparing sugarcane juice for the Ramadan Bazaar near her house when her hand got caught in the pressing machine.

The victim, Era Fazira Ramli, immediately screamed for help from the agonizing pain.

Her relatives rushed to her aid and switched the machine off. They then alerted firemen of the 10am incident on Tuesday (May 28).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Khatizah Rahaban said rescue teams arriving at her house in Kg. Sentosa found the woman's hand was crushed up to the wrist area.

"Firemen managed to get her hand out of the machine and gave her preliminary medical treatment before she was sent to the hospital," she said.

The woman is reported to be in a stable condition.
