Perak CPO says no arrest made over orang asli blockade in Gerik

IPOH: No arrest has been made over the Kampung Cunex blockade, says Perak police chief Comm Datuk Razarudin Husain (pic).

He said the police were there during the removal of the blockade in Gerik.

"We were there to protect agencies such as the state Forestry Department. During the removal, the orang asli community did not retaliate.

"However, we have deployed some 50 officers at the area as a precautionary measure," he told reporters when visiting Medan Gopeng Ramadan Bazaar here on Friday (May 18).

Comm Razarudin said the removal of the blockade was done peacefully without any riot or retaliation from the orang asli community.

On Thursday (May 17), a series of photos and videos showing men in blue shirts tearing down the blockade at Kampung Cunex.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the decision to remove the blockade was done after the state had taken into consideration all complaints from a legal aspect.

Ahmad Faizal said the blockade was removed since it was built on state land without permission.

The blockade was built by the orang asli who claimed that logging activities would pollute a nearby water catchment area.
